Covid19 4th wave of sweeps through Germany

Covid19 : 4th wave of sweeps through Germany Covid19 : 4th wave of sweeps through Germany

Germany reported a record 50,196 new cases of coronavirus on Thursday, the fourth day in a row it has posted a fresh daily high, as a fourth wave of covid19 infections sweeps the country.

The situation is also worsening in hospitals. While the number of patients admitted with severe forms of Covid-19 is not as high as a year ago, thanks to the protective effect of vaccines, “there is a clear increase,” Ralf Reintjes, an epidemiologist at the University of Applied Sciences in Hamburg, told the news.

Olaf Scholz, who aims to succeed Merkel early next month, has meanwhile asked the country to be “winter-proofed” against the disease, and it will be mostly up to state governments to decide which measures and restrictions are needed in their region.
